Before buying a travel eSIM, check two things: that your phone supports eSIM, and that it is unlocked. It takes ten seconds.
1. The 10-second check: dial *#06#
Open your phone app and dial *#06#. If you see a number labelled EID, your phone has an eSIM chip. If you only see IMEI numbers, it most likely does not support eSIM.
On iPhone you can also look in Settings → General → About: an EID line means eSIM support.
2. Is your phone unlocked?
Phones bought through a carrier contract can be locked to that carrier. A locked phone will refuse any other eSIM. If you bought your phone outright, it is usually unlocked; if in doubt, ask your carrier.
Phones that usually support eSIM
- iPhone: XS, XS Max, XR and all newer models. Models sold in mainland China generally have no eSIM.
- Samsung: Galaxy S20 and newer, Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip, and many recent A-series models.
- Google Pixel: Pixel 3 and newer.
- Others: many recent Motorola, Xiaomi, OPPO and Huawei models. Some versions of the same model differ by country, so always do the *#06# check.
What if my phone is not compatible?
An eSIM cannot be installed on a phone without an eSIM chip, so please don't buy one. If your eSIM has not been installed, you can request a refund under our refund policy.
